Traditional Landscape Artist

Biography

An Indiana native, Michael Burns has lived most of his life in Morgan County where he found an interest in art while attending Martinsville High School. After serving in the US Air Force, he entered into the field of Information Technology where he spent the remainder of his career. Maintaining an interest in art throughout his life, he started oil painting as a hobby in 2004. Due to his career, it was not until he retired in 2014 that he was able to pursue a second career as a full time artist. Painting in oils, Michael draws his artistic inspiration and expression from the beautiful Indiana landscape and his love for the rich history of Indiana Art. Influenced by the Hudson River School, he works to achieve a level of realism in his landscapes while not losing site of expressing the mood of the scene with light and color that were so important to past Indiana Artists. Michael is a member of the Hoosier Salon and Indiana Heritage Arts.
