Quilt and Textile Artist

Pamela Burns

Pamela Burns, an Indiana native, currently divides her time between Indiana and Florida.  Inspired from her love of textiles, color and design, Pamela began her first quilt in the early 1980’s.   In 2008, Pamela purchased her first sewing machine when she began creating traditional quilts as a hobby.  Pamela has always enjoyed artistic challenges, which led to her interest in art quilting. After taking early retirement in 2014, she began quilting on a longarm sewing machine and continues to expand her knowledge of new methods and techniques, while making traditional and art quilts.

Pamela has a dual membership with Studio Art Quilt Associates, Inc. for Indiana and Florida, American Quilter's Society, Machine Quilters, and multiple quilt guilds and groups in Indiana and Florida.  Pamela has made and donated quilts to the Quilts of Valor Foundation, The Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative Auction, SAQA Auction, and multiple community charitable guilds and organizations.

Prior to her retirement, Pam had only entered one quilt into the Brown County Historical Society Quilt Show where she placed first.   After retirement, Pamela was juried into the Indiana Bicentennial Barn Quilt Legacy Project Commemorating Historic Barns.  The quilt was a true collaboration of artists, and both of her entries for Brown and Morgan County were juried and used in the final design.  Pamela’s work was published and the quilt will travel throughout the state in 2016.  Also in 2016, Pamela was juried into the SAQA Regional Call for Entry:  Dialogues – Contemporary Responses to Marie Webster Quilts at the IMA, Indianapolis Museum of Art in 2016 and will travel to multiple shows throughout the state in 2016 & 2017.

Pamela is self-taught and has attended several workshops, online and in person with several textile artists. In 2016, Pamela has expanded her knowledge by dyeing her own fabrics and hand painting & dyeing silk.
